Thriving Through the Midlife Collision - corporate sessions

A workshop for ‘carents’

From 2025 (in the UK) there are now more people caring for elderly parents than caring for their own children, and the number of people aged over 85 is set to double over the next 20 years.

Our midlife years are often where job seniority and family pressures collide into a perfect storm - this session will unpack what is being experienced and also provide practical tips for navigating this time of life without burning out. The session includes:

  • What is the ‘midlife collision’?

  • Aging populations, ‘carenting’ and the double mental load

  • Impact of caring load on peri/menopause symptom severity

  • Anticipatory grief - naming the invisible loss

  • Communications, family dynamics, people pleasing and boundary setting - tips on navigating the "new normal"

  • Putting your own oxygen mask on first (it’s a cliché for a reason!) - understanding the 'stress response cycle' and building your own stress mitigation toolkit

  • Practical advice for negotiating changing responsibilities (inc finances and legal issues)

  • Signposting to further help and resources

This session can be delivered online or in person (in person deliver incurs additional travel costs) - please email emma@thetripleshift.org to find out more.

“Emma’s session has been the single most useful and supportive hour I have experienced in years (of therapy, coaching). To the point, delivered clearly, addressing difficult topics with compassion and confidence. Completely relevant for me and I feel a lot less alone as a result. Thank you.”

“Thank you so much Emma for presenting to our Parents and Caregivers Employee Resource Group about ‘Thriving through the Midlife Collision’! The session was really well attended (and I’ve already had requests from colleagues who couldn’t make it for the recording!). There were so many really practical tips shared in the session and difficult topics tackled pragmatically and practically. One of the attendees said ‘This has been an absolutely brilliant session, thank you so much! So helpful to have these ‘taboo’ topics talked about - really helps with any guilt.’ I think this really summarises what these sessions are for, to help colleagues feel less alone with what they are navigating and to provide genuine support and advice. The resources you’ve provided will also undoubtedly be really useful for members of our ERG going forward. Thanks so much Emma!”
